Never Going Back

For a variety of reasons, mostly to do with my health, I have not had much opportunity to blog lately. However what I am going to post today is hopefully a little inspiration for anyone who thinks that they cannot lose weight. For anyone who thinks that controlling their emotional eating or food addiction is impossible. For anyone who thinks that it is impossible to control their weight or lose weight while taking steroids. For anyone who thinks that it is impossible to exercise when you have  severe arthritis, an autoimmune disorder, or a chronic illness.

The second photo here is of my handsome brother and I and was taken today at a family gathering. The photo made me realize that I had another photo of him and I that I keep meaning to have my fiance print for me as a reminder to hang either on my fridge or to put in my wallet. Maybe I will leave it sitting on my nightstand when I don't want to get up and go to my water aerobics class in the morning. It is a reminder of why I work so hard to get healthy. A reminder of why I am not going back.

Almost seventy pounds ago.

  4. Wow, Christine! Look at you! 70 lbs is an amazing amount of weight to lose. I'm so happy for you. I needed to read this tonight (actually it's 1:08AM). I've been allowing myself to snack too much, and I've gained some weight, when I really wanted to start losing weight. Sharing your words and pictures has inspired me! I hope I can begin! Thank you!

Low Dose Naltrexone

In my last blog entry I discussed my current experiences with an integrative medicine doctor. (Going Down the Road of Integrative Medicine). In that entry, I mentioned a new medication I was prescribed by this doctor called low dose naltrexone (LDN) and I think that it is worthy of its very own blog entry so here we go. Since we have the modern day miracle of Google, I am not going to spend a lot of time describing LDN and exactly how it works, but I think there are some basics that are important. Naltrexone is a medication that was created in the late 1970's as a treatment for heroin overdose and subsequently used in larger doses (50-300 mg) to treat heroin addicts. It blocks the opiate receptors in our body, which are also found on immune system cells. The next discovery, in the 1980's, was that naltrexone at lower doses (hence why it is called low dose naltrexone), blocks these opioid receptors and increases the endorphin level…

I have been reading a lot of posts of the Sjogren's Syndrome Foundation Facebook page lately about disability for this disorder. People seem to have a lot of questions and comments not only about the process itself of obtaining disability, but also about the journey which is at best, extremely stressful.
